The storm as a means of transformation

Wind blows fiercely, gusting by and bringing change in weather. Bright sky above and darkness to the right from my point of view. Within a minute or two darkness ensues, and winds gusting stronger still, blowing rain almost sideways in the streets. Thunder shakes our bodies, rumbling around and within. The static palpable and the excitement in experiencing this force of nature brings smiles to our faces. Storming only a few minutes and winds of change brining in the sunshine again. We look out back and “budcaps” from our tree are everywhere on the ground. Maple buds, as I learned, are protective structures that shield developing leaves during the dormant winter months. These buds are essential for a maple tree’s ability to survive the winter and initiate new growth in the spring.

I tune into this, my mind noticing how all of life is connected. Similarities to challenges in life, dark night of the soul, prompting us to go inward for truth and protection, and growth. Transformation occurring in this silence, expansion from within. The storm comes and wrestles things up, we are ready to shed our skin and begin anew, just as the wind and rain allowed the tree to transform into a budding beauty on this beauty day. I let this sink in, as my bare feet contact the earth. I feel connected, aligned with nature, with everything. Thankful to be part of it all.
